Interesting Results

The Archives of Internal Medicine  reported on the outcome of a study to assess whether potentially inappropriate medicines (PIMs) defined by new STOPP (Screening Tool of Older Persons’ Potentially Inappropriate Prescriptions) criteria are significantly associated with Adverse Drug Events (ADEs) in older people with acute illness.  The conclusion of the investigation was that STOPP criteria PIMs are significantly associated with avoidable ADEs in older people that cause or contribute to urgent hospitalization.
